The Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians has worked hard to provide for future generations by engaging in comprehensive economic development planning to diversify their economic base. In addition to owning and operating Cache Creek Casino Resort, the Tribe owns several parcels of agricultural land in Yolo County and oversees the farming operation of more than 1,500 acres. Walnuts, wheat, cucumbers, melons and oat hay are among the crops grown on the land.
The Tribe also owns and operates the Cache Creek Mini Mart, which serves not only the casino resort’s patrons and employees, but is a gathering place and central service facility for residents of the Capay Valley. The Mini Mart features a diversified selection of quality food items, three grades of unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel.
The Tribe is the single largest landlord to the State of Illinois in its capital city of Springfield. The Illinois State Departments of Corrections, Public Transportation and Community Services lease more than 600,000 square feet of office space owned by the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians. Closer to home, the Tribe owns a 60,000 square foot office building in downtown Sacramento and the EDD Mail Distribution Center for the State of California in West Sacramento. The Tribe is also involved in many joint ventures with well-known developers and is collaborating with the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento on a master planned residential, commercial, and office development project along the Sacramento riverfront.
The Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians is the first tribe in the United States to own and operate a Ford automobile dealership.
