Cultural Renewal
Yocha-De-He Cultural Renewal Committee
The Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians believes that arts, culture and Native languages are critical elements of Native sovereignty. Like all tribes across the country, the People of Yocha-De-He know that cultural survival is the key to their identity and the core of their existence. They are committed to a path to reach cultural, linguistic and legislative goals as they relate to cultural renewal. The Cultural Renewal Committee meets monthly with responsibilities including designing cultural programs, engaging in site protection, assisting with cultural monitoring and field services, conducting historic research, creating cultural media, planning cultural events, and supporting language revitalization.
The Tribe has developed a T’ewe K’ewe (Cultural Center) to be a home for these activities. The T’ewe K’ewe includes a meeting room, multi-media display, language revitalization space, a site protection and mapping office, a California Indian Library collection, an extensive Patwin language and history research section, and a HD video production studio.
